Eastern Mennonite's Mike Zucconi Named ODAC SID of the Year
|
Mike
Zucconi of Eastern Mennonite University has been named the 2007-08 Old
Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Sports Information Director of the
Year, as voted on by the league's sports information professionals.
Zucconi recently completed his second year as the sports information
director at EMU, where he is responsible for the promotion of the
Royals’ 15-sport athletic program.

Lynchburg senior shortstop, Ronnie LaBrie, was named the Player of the
Year while Randolph-Macon head coach, Ray Hedrick, earned his first
conference Coach of the Year award in the annual voting by the league's
coaches. Washington and Lee senior outfielder, James Madden, was tabbed
the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete in a vote of the league’s sports
information directors.
Virginia
Wesleyan's Gary Bulman and R-MC’s Byron Mendenhall were deadlocked in
voting for the other two awards, lending to co-pitchers and co-rookies
of the year.

LC's Curran Wins a Pair of ODAC Men's
Lacrosse Awards
|
Lynchburg College goalkeeper Garrett Curran added a little more fuel to
an already exciting Hornets’ campaign by earning the ODAC men’s lacrosse
Player of the Year award as well as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete
of the Year award. Virginia Wesleyan College mentor J.P. Stewart was
named the Coach of the Year, and Roanoke College attack Matt Quinton was
tabbed the Rookie of the Year.

and Lee's James Named a Finalist for Byron Nelson Award

The Golf Coaches
Association of America named Washington and Lee's Nathaniel James as a
finalist for the 2008 Byron Nelson Award, which is presented by
Cleveland Golf in cooperation with the Four Seasons Resort and Club Las
Colinas and the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. James is one of five
finalists for the award that is presented to a graduating senior and is
judged on the entire academic and golf career, along with character and
integrity while in college. Particular consideration is given to a
nominee's good citizenship, as portrayed by Mr. Byron Nelson over the
course of his life and golf career.

Lynchburg Earns First Round Bye in Men's Lax Tournament
|
he Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team received a first-round bye in
the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship Tournament and will travel
to Chestertown, MD, this weekend to battle Washington College. The
contest will be held on Sunday, May 11, at 1:30 pm.
Lynchburg is 16-2 on the season, went 6-0 in the ODAC, and is riding a
14-game winning streak. Washington is 13-3 this season after going 7-1
in the Centennial Conference that features two other NCAA Tournament
participants in Gettysburg College and Haverford College. [More] |

W&L Women's Lacrosse Earns NCAA
First-Round Bye

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced the
pairings for the 2008 Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament and
Washington and Lee earned a first-round bye. The Generals will play the
winner of Amherst and Endicott at Franklin & Marshall on Sat., May 10.
The sixth-ranked Generals (17-2) received an automatic bid to the
tournament after winning their sixth-straight Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) title.

Lynchburg Holds Top Seed in NCAA Softball
Regional, Gets Bye
|
The Lynchburg College softball team received a first-round bye in the
upcoming NCAA Division III Championship Tournament and will travel to
Fayetteville, N.C., this weekend to take on the winner of Emory
University and LaGrange College. The contest will be held on Thursday,
May 8, at 4:00 p.m. The entire tournament will use a double-elimination
format.

Washington and Lee's Tabb Named Women's Tennis Top Player

Washington and Lee
added to its sixth straight ODAC women’s tennis championship with a pair
of the top honors amongst 2008 Women’s Tennis All-ODAC teams. The
Generals’ Katie Tabb was named the sport’s Player of the Year while W&L
mentor Eric Ishida was selected as the Coach of the Year. Roanoke’s
Kelsey White was award the Rookie of the Year honor while Hilary Teeter
from Bridgewater was voted the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the
Year. Lynchburg was tabbed with the team sportsmanship award. [More] |

R-MC's Wodarski Earns Final ODAC Player of the Week Award

Randolph-Macon
goalkeeper Ray Wodarski earns the ODAC's final Player of the Week award
after notching 23 saves in an 11-7 win over Hampden-Sydney. The
freshman net-minder stopped 14 shots in the second half to clinch the
victory that put the Yellow Jackets into the ODAC postseason for the
first time in school history. The win for R-MC also marked the
