Awarded ODAC’s Dan Wooldridge
Overall Sports Champion Cup
SALEM, VA – Behind an Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) record nine league championships, the Generals of Washington
and Lee have been awarded the 2005-06 Dan Wooldridge
Overall Sports Champion Cup by the league.
The W&L win marks the 10th time in the 12-year
history of the award that the trophy will reside in Lexington. The Generals won the combined cup
totaling 139 points while competing in 21 of the ODAC’s
22 sponsored sports. The Generals captured league championships in volleyball,
field hockey, swimming, riding, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’
cross-country and tennis (men and women) during the 2005-06 season.
Bridgewater and Virginia Wesleyan finished tied
for second with 112 points each followed by Roanoke in third-place with 104 points.
This year marks the first time the award has been named
after former ODAC Commissioner Dan Wooldridge in
honor of his excellence service to the league from its inception until 1997.
In addition to the Overall Sports Award, Washington and Lee
also garnered honors in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
On the women’s side, W&L ran away with the award after earning
82.5 points, 16.5 points better than second-place Virginia Wesleyan. It is the third consecutive women’s
championship for the Generals and the sixth overall. The Marlins were followed by Lynchburg
and Roanoke
both of which finished with 59 points.
Washington and Lee edged Bridgewater for the men’s title after earning
56.5 points. The win marks the 11th
time in 12 years that Generals have captured the men’s title. The Eagles posted 54 points to finish in
second-place followed by Hampden-Sydney with 48.5 points.
