Tops ODAC Golf Poll

– Defending
National Champion Guilford has been selected as the favorite by
the league’s nine head coaches in the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) Golf Preseason Poll.
The Quakers earned 81 points and all nine first-place votes
to sit atop the poll.
Guilford
won its second NCAA Division III National Championship in four
years in 2005. The Quakers won the title by 25 strokes over
second-place
Redlands
which was the largest margin of victory since 1999.
NCAA National Tournament medallist Colin Clark returns this
season for GC head coach Jack Jensen.
Clark
captured individual medallist honors by defeating teammate
Dave Patterson in a playoff.
Clark
won the title with a par-four on the 18th hole and Patterson
made a five.
Defending ODAC champion Randolph-Macon received a total of 64
points to land in second-place in the poll.
The Yellow Jackets captured its first golf title in school
history by edging Washington and Lee by four strokes.
2005 ODAC Coach-of-the-Year Jeff Burns returns ODAC
Tournament medallist Blake Smith who took first-place honors with
a two-day score of 153.
Washington and Lee took the fourth spot in the poll with 63
points followed by Hampden-Sydney (57 points),
Bridgewater
(50 points), Virginia Wesleyan (33 points),
Lynchburg
(24 points),
Roanoke
(24 points) and Emory and Henry (9 points).
