Washington
and Lee Picked as Favorite in 2006 ODAC Women’s Lax Poll

– Three-time
defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) champion
Washington and Lee has been selected as the favorite by the
league’s nine head coaches as the favorite in the 2006 Women’s
Lacrosse Preseason Poll.
W&L received a total of 81 points and all nine
first-place votes to take the top spot in the poll.
Behind 2005 ODAC Coach-of-the-Year Jan Hathorn, the Generals
posted a 15-4 overall record and went a perfect 8-0 in league
play, capturing the ODAC championship with a 6-5 win over
Randolph-Macon. W&L
advanced to the NCAA Tournament, winning its opening round game
for the first
time in program history with an 11-9 victory over
Amherst
to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Amanda Strickler returns to the line up for Washington and
Lee after scoring 25 goals and adding 26 assists for 51 points
last season. For her
efforts Strickler was named First-Team All-ODAC.
The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan came in second in the poll
with a total of 63 points. VWC
finished last season with a 12-5 overall record and went 7-1 in
the ODAC.
First-year Head Coach Fran Amasia inherits a team that
includes 2005 First All-ODAC selection Laura Wallace who scored 45
goals and added 18 assists for 63 points a season ago.
Joining Wallace will be junior Chrissy Clancy who was
fourth on the team in scoring last season with 41 points on 32
goals and nine assists.
Randolph-Macon landed in the third slot in the poll with a
total of 60 points. Last
season, RMC won nine of its last 12 games to finish the season
10-6 overall and 6-2 in the league.
First-Team All-ODAC selection Traci Phipps is back in the
mix for head coach Dennis Kanach after she posted 32 points on 29
goals and three assists in 2005.
Roanoke
came in fourth
in the poll with 53 points followed by Sweet Briar (47 points),
Lynchburg
(42 points),
Guilford
(32 points),
Bridgewater
(17 points) and Hollins (10 points)
