MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

ROBERT AARON, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE

Aaron, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., was the highest-placing ODAC and Marlin runner, men or women, in the Blue Marlin Invitational, finishing fourth in a field of 50.  He finished the 8-kilometer run in a time of 28:37.1, the 21st fastest in program history.  Aaron broke up a pack of six Mary Washington runners who finished 1-2-3 and 5-6-7.  Aaron's time is also the top 8-K time in the ODAC through the first weekend of the season.

 


    

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

ASHLEY ROANE, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE

Roane, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., opened the season with a seventh-place finish among 50 women who competed in the Blue Marlin Invitational.  Her time of 20:34.4 is the fifth fastest in VWC history and gives her five of the top nine 5-kilometer times in program history.  She was the ODAC and Marlin runner to cross the finish line in the meet and currently boasts the top 5-K time in the early conference season.

 


 

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ALLIE WEIR, LYNCHBURG COLLEGE

Weir, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., led the Hornets to victories over St. Vincent College and Sewanee to open the first weekend of competition. She had four goals and two assists Saturday to give LC an 8-0 win over St. Vincent Saturday and followed up with a goal and three assists in a 5-1 victory over Sewanee.

 

Field Hockey Honor Roll
Brianna Jacques, Bridgewater Scored both goals in Bridgewater's 2-0 victory over Villa Julie.
Jill Dixon, Randolph-Macon Scored twice in an 8-0 win over Sweet Briar to help the Jackets to a 1-1 record.
Lindsey Paz, Roanoke Made 33 saves between the pipes against C.W. Post and Drew over the weekend.
Melissa Carron, SBC Scored the game winning goal and notched an assist in the Vixens' 2-1 overtime victory against St. Vincent.

 


 

MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PHIL FRANCOIS, LYNCHBURG COLLEGE

Francois, a senior from West Windsor, N.J., scored all five Hornet goals this weekend to push the men’s soccer team to two wins and the Arby's/Hampden-Sydney College Classic Title. The converted defender notched two penalty kick goals in a 2-0 win over Alvernia Saturday, and scored three more in a 3-1 victory over Ursinus on Sunday. Francois was named the Classic’s MVP for his efforts.

 

Men's Soccer Honor Roll
Elliott Anderson, Emory & Henry Scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Ohio Valley.
Greg Danahy, Hampden-Sydney Scored twice in the Tigers 4-0 victory over Alvernia.
David Krukiel, Randolph-Macon Notched is first collegiate goal and an all-tournament team selection at the RMC Select Classic.
Michael Rouhana, Roanoke Assisted on a goal in a 2-0 win over John Carroll; came back to score the game-tying goal against Rutgers-Camden; named Domino's Classic MVP.
Brandon Massie, Virginia Wesleyan Named the RMC Select Classic MVP after scoring twice in a 2-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan and assisting on two goals in a 4-1 victory over Wheaton (Mass.).

 


 

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ASHLEY HOATH, LYNCHBURG COLLEGE

Hoath, a sophomore from Alexandria, Va., scored two game-winning goals and three overall this weekend to give LC the Haverford College Kickoff tournament title. She netted the team’s first two goals in a 3-1 win over Montclair State on Saturday and scored the game’s only goal Sunday with 4:10 remaining in regulation to lift the Hornets over Haverford in the championship game.

 

Women's Soccer Honor Roll
Katie Lamm, Eastern Mennonite Scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Rutgers-Camden; then notched the game-tying goal against F&M in the second half; that game remained tied through overtime, but EMU was declared the tourney champion by penalty kicks (5-4).
Nikki Greco, Emory & Henry Scored twice in a 5-0 win over Mountain State; added two more and an assist in a 7-0 win over Mary Baldwin.
Lacy Phelps, Randolph-Macon Scored the game-winning goal in a come-from-behind win over Lees McRae, a D-II school.
Kristen McCoy, Roanoke Scored twice in a 3-2 win over Richard Stockton including the game winner in the 87th minute.

 


 

VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MARSHA HERMES, BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE

Hermes, a senior from Warrenton, Va., averaged 5.24 kills per game and finished with a .401 hitting percentage to lead the Eagles to a 4-0 record and the championship at the Eastern Mennonite University Invitational. Hermes had 10 kills and a .526 hitting percentage in a 3-0 victory over Mary Baldwin. She added 22 kills with a .526 percentage in a 3-0 victory over Frostburg St. Against N.C. Wesleyan, Hermes had 20 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. In the title match, a 3-0 victory over Bluffton, Hermes put down 16 kills with a .286 hitting percentage.

 

Volleyball Honor Roll
Lauren Whitmer, Emory & Henry Hammered out 31 kills and 11 blocks at the E&H Volleyball Invite; had 16 kills and hit at a .300 clip against Chowan.
Amanda Walsh, Lynchburg Registered 41 kills and 17 total blocks in a 4-0 weekend for the Hornets; also came away with five aces.
Janice Unrast, Randolph Put together 35 kills and 20 digs in an 0-4 weekend for the WildCats; put down 16 kills with two aces against Ferrum.
April Hines, Randolph-Macon Had a team-high nine kills with two aces and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Marymount.
Tori Bridge, Roanoke

Setter came away with 175 assists in a 2-2 week for the Maroons (16 games); Had a season-high 50 helpers against Averett.

Cassidy Jones, Sweet Briar Collected 46 kills and a .275 hitting pct. in a 1-3 week for the Vixens; had matches of 14, 13 and 11 kills; also had five aces in the win over SUNY-IT.
Debbie Sterne, Virginia Wesleyan Racked up 43 kills and a .415 hitting pct. in a 3-1 week for the Marlins; went for 14 kills and three blocks in a win over DeSales.
