MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

MICHAEL WELSH, WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY

Welsh, a junior from Tullahoma, Tennessee, helped lead the Washington and Lee men’s cross country team to a first-place finish out of 13 teams at the W&L Invitational on Saturday morning.  Welsh was the individual champion, crossing the finish line in 28:39 and finishing 39 seconds ahead of his nearest competition in the 124-person race.  Welsh earned All-ODAC and All-Region honors last season.

 

Men's Cross Country Honor Roll
Nathan Rittenhouse, Bridgewater Finished second overall at the W&L Invitational with a time of 29:18.00.
Jonathan Seidel, Emory & Henry Placed fifth out of 124 runners at W&L with a time of 29:39.00
Doug Fender, Roanoke In his first collegiate meet, led the Maroons with an individual 7th place finish at W&L in 29:55.00.

 

 


    

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

LIZ MUMAW, ROANOKE COLLEGE

Mumaw, a sophomore from Berryville, Va., finished second overall at the Generals Cross Country Invitational at Washington & Lee, but earned first place finish points.  Mumaw finished in a time of 24:48.00, helping the Maroons capture first place at the meet.

 

Women's Cross Country Honor Roll
Charissa Duncan, Guilford Ran the second-fastest 6-kilometer time in GC history with a 27:37.00 showing at W&L.
Grace Normann, Guilford Clocked GC's sixth-fastest 6-kilometer time with a 28:16.00 at W&L.
Kat Telfeyan, Washington & Lee Placed sixth overall (5th in points) at W&L with a time of 25:29.00, helping the Generals to a second place team finish.

 

 


 

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ALLIE WEIR, LYNCHBURG COLLEGE

Weir, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., wins her second straight ODAC Player of the Week award.  Last season's top freshman, Weir led the Hornets to victories over Mary Washington and York (Pa.) and a near upset of #8 Lebanon Valley. She had two goals, including the game-winner, on Wednesday to give LC a 3-2 victory on the road at Mary Washington. Over the weekend, she tallied three goals in a 6-4 loss against Lebanon Valley – who had only allowed one goal all season prior - and followed that up with three more goals and an assist on the road at York.  For the season, Weir has scored 13 goals to go with six assists for 32 points.

 

Field Hockey Honor Roll
Brianna Jacques, Bridgewater Scored her team-leading third goal in a loss to Dickinson.
Leeanne Clark, RC In the only game of the week for the Maroons, notched a goal in a 3-2 loss to Dickinson.

 


 

MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JOE RIGERT, GUILFORD COLLEGE
Rigert, a junior from Clayton, N.C.,
helped the Quakers to a 2-1 week with a team-leading five goals and 11 points in three matches.  He set a Guilford record with nine points in the Quakers’ 5-1 road win over NCAA Division II Chowan Sept. 5.  Rigert scored four times in the match, tying the school standard.  He also tallied Guilford’s first goal in the Quakers’ 2-1 win over Salisbury, which was ranked 10th in the current NSCAA/adidas South Region Poll.

 

Men's Soccer Honor Roll
Elliott Anderson, Emory & Henry Scored twice in a 4-0 win over LaGrange and added another in a 4-1 win over Averett in a 4-0 week for the Wasps.
Scott Meguid, Guilford Had three assists on the week to move into a tie for fifth place on GC's all-time list (13).
JoJo Howard, Hampden-Sydney Scored once in a 4-2 loss to Elizabethtown in 1-1 week for the Tigers.
Shawn Bender, Lynchburg Scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win of Salisbury on Sunday.
Chris Williams, Randolph-Macon Earned all-tournament honors after scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Wesley.
Eric Eversole, Roanoke Had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over Ohio Northern.
Brandon Massie, Virginia Wesleyan Earn tournament MVP honors after collecting a goal and an assist in each victory for the Marlins... a 3-0 win over Catholic and a 5-0 trumping of Wesley.
Washington & Lee Earned the program's 400th victory with a win over Southern Virginia early in the week.

 


 

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NIKKI GRECO, EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE
Greco, a freshman from Radford, Va., led the Wasps with seven goals and three assists through a pair of victories for E&H.  She scored twice with three assists in a 13-1 win over Pikeville, and followed that up with five goals in an 11-1 win over Averett.  She now has 11 goals and four assists on the season for the 4-0 Wasps.

 

Women's Soccer Honor Roll
Krista Ready, Bridgewater Scored the first goal in a 4-1 win over Shenandoah; now is tied for the team lead with two goals.
Katie Lamm, Eastern Mennonite Scored twice in a 3-2 win over George Fox and added another in a 3-1 loss to Frostburg St.
Jada Daniel, Guilford Scored twice in a 4-2 loss to Maryville, he second multi-goal effort of her career; notched a third tally in a 3-1 loss to Emory.
Jackie Bader, Lynchburg Surrendered only one overtime goal and made eight saves in a 1-1 week; shutout Maryville 2-0 in the second contest.
Victoria Johnson, Randolph Notched 29 saves in the WildCats overtime loss to Peace.
Mary Jocelyn, Randolph-Macon Made 46 saves in a 1-2 week for the Jackets including 40 saves over two games at the W&L Invitational.
McKenzie Garst, Roanoke Scored one goal in each of three games over the week, adding an assist in a loss to Catholic.
Kristen Johnson, Sweet Briar Made 45 saves and boasted a 1.94 goals-against-average in a 1-2 week for the Vixens.
Kiki Moreo, Washington & Lee Collected her 27th career shutout over the weekend, placing her in a tie for second in program history at W&L.

 


 

VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GRACE GERALDS, VIRGINIA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Geralds, a senior from Garden Ridge, Texas,
continued to quarterback the offense for VWC in the Gettysburg Invitational, producing 87 assists, including 25 against host Gettysburg. She hit .352 throughout VWC’s four matches, producing 35 kills and 81 total attacks.  She also recorded 19 digs and had eight aces and eight total blocks.  Grace was named to the All-Tournament team.  She leads VWC with 218 assists and is hitting at a .277 clip through 32 games and nine matches.

 

Volleyball Honor Roll
Sara Hoffman, Eastern Mennonite Had 159 assists, 51 digs and 14 aces in a 2-3 week for the Royals; had 49 assists, 20 digs and 7 aces in a loss to Messiah.
Stephanie Owen, Emory & Henry Hit .280 with 61 kills, 26 digs and 11 total blocks in a 4-1 week for the Wasps; put together 20 kills and 6 blocks in a win over Methodist.
Kaci Loeffler, Guilford Libero collected 65 digs in a 2-3 week for the Quakers; had 21 digs in four games in a win over Meredith.
Katie Warlick, Lynchburg Put up 3.31 kills per game and notched 38 digs in a 3-1 week for the Hornets.
Lindsay Wood, Randolph

Libero accounted for 73 digs in five matches for the WildCats; had two matches with 20-plus digs.

Jenna Burnop, Roanoke Was named to the Roanoke Classic all-tournament team after posting 37 kills in a 4-0 weekend for the Maroons.
Ashley Winters, Sweet Briar Had 31 kills, 75 digs and 11 aces in four matches for the Vixens.
Jess Hudock, Washington & Lee Averaged 2.40 kills, 1.40 digs and 0.87 aces over the weekend for the Generals; W&L's 26-match home winning streak was snapped by CNU.
Laura Maurer, Washington & Lee Along with Hudock, was named to all-tournament team after averaging 3.60 kills and 2.93 digs per game.
