BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Drew Elkins, Bridgewater College
Elkins, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia,
had a big week for the Eagles. In five games, he was 13-for-18 (.722
average) with six doubles and a home run. Against Catholic, Elkins was
4-for-4 with three doubles, four runs scored and one RBI. Against W&L,
he was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Against Mary Washington, he was
4-for-5 with four RBIs, a run scored, two doubles and a grand slam
homer. He finished his week 2-for-4 in a doubleheader against R-MC and
he reached base in five of his seven plate appearances. For the week he
had an on-base percentage of .727 and a slugging percentage of 1.222.
BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jesse Freeman,
Virginia Wesleyan College
Freeman, a senior from Virginia Beach, Virginia,
Virginia
Wesleyan to a 7-0 victory over Roanoke College by recording a
career-high 11 strikeouts. He now leads the team with 58. The shutout
was also the first of the season for Freeman, who improved to 4-1 on the
mound. He also lowered his ERA to 3.21.

GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Burton Wood, Guilford College
Wood, a junior from Siler City, North Carolina,
led
Guilford and tied for ninth place at the Marine Federal Credit Union
Intercollegiate with a 54-hole 219 (70-71-78), which ranked 9th among 80
competitors, first among ODAC players. The Quakers placed seventh
among 16 teams at the Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate.
Guilford finished 4th among Division III competitors and
first among seven ODAC competitors.

MEN'S LACROSSE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ned Rider, Washington and Lee University
Rider, a senior from Manakin-Sabot, Virginia,
helped
lead the Generals to a 1-1 week by totaling six goals and one assist
over the two games. He notched two goals and one assist in a 15-10 loss
to Middlebury and became the 28th player in W&L history to
record 100 career points. He then notched four goals in a 9-6 win over
Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday and currently sits at 106 career points on
74 goals and 32 assists. This season, Rider has 21 goals and four
assists for 25 points.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jillian Boyd, Virginia Wesleyan College
Boyd, a senior from Warrenton, Virginia,
led
VWC to a 3-0 week with wins over Christopher Newport (9-6), at Guilford
(15-12) and at Greensboro (17-9). She scored a total of 12 goals in the
three games and 14 points, the latter improving her career total to
207. She is only the fifth woman in VWC lacrosse history to surpass the
200-point plateau. Boyd also led the team with 18 ground balls and 11
draw control victories. She leads the Marlins with 33 goals, 42 points,
47 ground balls and 48 draw controls.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dana Dettmar, Emory & Henry College
Dettmar, a junior from Ewing, New Jersey, had a hit safely in
each of six games for the Wasps, and had multi-hit games in five of
those contests. She batted .524 for the week, picking up 11 hits
in 21 at-bats. Dettmar scored seven runs, knocked three doubles
and cleared the fences once. She also drove in three runs.
SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Gretchen Wolfe, Roanoke College
Wolfe, a freshman from New Windsor, New York, won four games in
29.2 innings of work last week. Early in the week, she helped the
Maroons earn a split with Bridgewater by giving up only one run in a 9-1
win. She picked up another victory in a 4-3 effort over Virginia
Wesleyan, and recorded both wins in a double-header sweep of
Randolph-Macon. She gave up 27 hits in 29.2 innings of work while
fanning 16 batters. She ended with a 2.82 earned run average.
Wolfe is now 9-1 on the season with a 2.10 earned run average.

MEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Nat Estes, Washington and Lee University
Estes, a senior from Charleston, South
Carolina,
helped lead the
Generals to a 4-0 week by going 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. He
won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1 and fell at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, in a 7-2
win over Bridgewater on Wednesday. He then won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2
singles and 8-5 at No. 2 doubles in a 9-0 win over Swarthmore on
Saturday and he capped the week by winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and
8-0 at No. 2 doubles in a 5-4 win over 15th-ranked Johns
Hopkins on Sunday. For the season, Estes is 8-5 in singles and 11-4 in
doubles.

Leah Weston, Washington and Lee
University
Weston, a senior from Colorado Springs,
Colorado, won at No. 4 singles to lift the top-ranked Washington and Lee
women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over No. 3 Williams on Thursday at
the 2008 Fab Five Tournament in Lexington, Va. She also won at No.
2 Doubles vs. Skidmore, No. 4 Singles & No. 2 Doubles vs. Claremont Mudd
Scripps, Wellesley, and Gustavus Adolphus.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Nathan Turner,
Bridgewater College
Turner, a junior from Elkton, Virginia,
won two events and placed third in another at the
Liberty Invitational. Turner won the shot at 53 feet, 7 inches, won the
discus with a throw of 148 feet, 5 inches and placed third in the hammer
with a distance of 169 feet, 4 inches. A pair of Division I throwers
placed ahead of Turner in the hammer. His throws in both the shot and
hammer were new Bridgewater College records and both marks met the NCAA
provisional qualifying standard.

Javelin with an ODAC leading throw of 115'1" and also won the High Jump
clearing 5'0.25"
