The four dominant programs in NCAA Division III baseball Championship also dominated the All-Time All-Tournament Team for The NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. Wisconsin-Oshkosh, with 17 appearances in the Championship placed six players on of the All-Time All-Tournament Team. Three-time champions, Marietta and Montclair State placed five players and four-time champion; Eastern Conn State was represented by four players. NC Wesleyan had three players, all on the first team, matching the three Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans who were named to the first team. Southern Maine, a two-time winner of the Championship, placed three players on the team. The remaining fourteen players represent twelve different programs.
Two sets of teammates and a set of brothers highlight the first team that collectively batted 0.413. Outfielder Eric Jarman (0.537, 16 R, 19 RBI) and catcher Doug Flowers (0.413, 12, 18), teammates in 1989-90, represent NC Wesleyan. Joining Jarman and Flowers is fellow Bishop, third baseman Jeremy Stewart (0.426, 10, 8). Teammates, first baseman Craig Lieder (0.324, 19, 25) and Tim Jorgensen (0.394, 21, 19) join Terry Jorgensen (0.460, 9, 22) from Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Joining former MVPs Jarman, Tim Jorgensen, and Terry Jorgensen are 1986 MVP third baseman Mike Brandts, Marietta (0.340, 20,13), 1987 MVP designated hitter-outfielder John Deutsch, Montclair State (0.471, 9,13), and 1996 MVP outfielder Mark DeMenna, William Paterson (0.404, 12, 14). Second baseman John Cole, Ithaca (0.425, 11, 16) and outfielder Bob Prince, Southern Maine (0.415, 11, 13) completes the everyday players on the first team.
The pitching rotation for the first-team was a combined 9-2 with a 1.45 ERA. The pitchers were led by 2000 MVP Corey Hamman, Montclair State (3-0, 0.35 ERA, 22 SO). Joining Hamman is Eastern Conn State standout, Joey Serfass (3-1, 1.31, 25). Rounding out the pitching staff is the all-time leader in complete games and strikeouts, Methodist's Brian Ford (3-1, 2.31, 37).
Four former MVPs highlight the second team selections: first baseman Jeff Polinsky, La Verne (0.500, 7, 9); outfielder Brad Bonine, St. Thomas (0.377, 12, 8); Gary Williamson, Southern Maine (0.435, 6, 10) and last years pitching star, Scott Hyde, George Fox (3-0, 3.15, 30). Two players on the second-team competed in four consecutive Championships - catcher Kevin Murdock, Wisconsin-Oshkosh (0.405, 13, 11), and outfielder Mark Talarico, Marietta (0.347, 12, 8). In addition to Polinsky, the second team infield includes second baseman Craig Conway, Montclair State (0.375, 14,15), third baseman Ken Wainczak, College of New Jersey (0.650, 5, 5), shortstop Brian Lindner, William Paterson (0.455, 6, 10) and shortstop-third baseman Jim Fasano, Montclair State (0.436, 13, 10). Designated hitter Tim Peterson, Rowan (0.370, 5, 9) joins outfielders Shorty Flees, Carthage (0.391, 6, 13) and Dwight Wildman (0.305, 10, 14) to complete the regulars on the second team. Pitchers Frank Dippold, Montclair State (0-0, 0.00, 6), Rich Jarer, Cortland State (2-0, 0.68, 8) and Jarrod Washburn, Wisconsin-Oshkosh (3-0, 2.45, 25) completes the All-Time All-Tournament Team.
Ten players, including six previous MVPs achieved honorable mention.
Notes: The All-Time All Tournament Team includes 17 of 29 Championship MVPs. Eighteen schools and 25 Championship teams are represented. The 1982, 1990 Eastern Conn State, 1992 William Paterson and 2002 Chapman Championship teams did not have a representative. Seven players played in one series, 14 played in two, 15 played in three and seven players played in a Championship in all four years of eligibility. Players by region - New England (7), New York (4), Mid Atlantic (10), South (4), Mideast (6), Central (1), Midwest (7), West (3). Twelve of the Championship teams placed at least two players on the All-Time All-Tournament Team. Two teams had four players, 1983 Marietta and 1994 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, both Championship Teams. Seven players were unanimous selections. A committee selected the All-Time All-Tournament Team with a SID representative from each region and two at-large members.
