ODAC Announces 2005 Swimming All-Conference Team

 

Salem, Va. –  After winning its 12th straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) swimming championship, Washington and Lee led all the league’s schools by placing seven swimmers on the all-conference team.

 

Keturah Akida, Emma Axt, Jess Cobb, Kristine Holda, Colette Moryan, Amy Roberson and Abbie Sauter all earned all-conference accolades for the Generals.

 

Randolph-Macon junior Erin Ewalt, a native of Reisterstown, Md., was named the conference Swimmer of the Year for the third consecutive year after winning three events at the championship including the 200IM, 400Im and 200 backstroke. Ewalt broke two of her own past conference records in the process with her 2:11.06 mark in the 200 IM and 4:37.89 in the 400 IM. The three-time ODAC Swimmer of the Year was also a part of three winning relay squads over the weekend (400 medley, 400 free and 800 free).

 

Sweet Briar’s Nicole Snyder and Randolph-Macon’s Sarah Swann were tabbed co-Rookies of the Year. Snyder, a freshman from Manassas, Va., won the 1650 freestyle and was second in the 500 free and 200 fly. Swann, a sophomore from Maidens, Va., won the 200 fly and was second in the 200IM and 400IM. She also participated on two winning relay teams (400 medley, 400 free).

 

Sweet Briar’s Jason Gallagher was recognized by his peers as the ODAC Coach of the Year. Gallagher, in his second year at the helm of the SBC program, led the Vixen to a fourth place finish in the conference championship, including the addition of co-Rookie of the Year Nicole Snyder.

 

Kim Edmonds and Jessica Ware from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College were also named to the All-ODAC squad.

 

Joining their teammates Ewalt and Swann on the team are RMC’s Maureen McLaughlin, Heather Porter, Aimee Powell and Randi Smith

 

Washington and Lee (596 pts) was followed by Randolph-Macon in second place (475 pts), R-M Woman’s College (249.5), Sweet Briar (230), Hollins (213) and Guilford (118.5) at the chamionship
