ODAC Announces All-Conference Football Squads

HSC’s J.D.  Ricca and Catholic’s Bobby Stutz Earn Top Honors

SALEM, VA – Hampden-Sydney quarterback J.D. Ricca and Catholic linebacker Bobby Stutz have been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players-of-the-Year as the league announced its all-conference teams on Tuesday.

Ricca, a senior from Gaithersburg, Md., capped off a record setting career in 2005 by setting ODAC single season marks with 3,731-yards and 42 touchdowns. Ricca tops the ODAC record books in passing yards in a career (8,633), most touchdown passes in a career (91), most completions in a career (585), highest completion percentage in a career (63.5%).

Ricca follows CW Clemmons (2004) and Conrad Singh (2003) as the third Tiger in as many years to win the award named after former HSC stand out Stokeley Fulton.

A native of Hillsborough, N.J., Stutz is a six-foot-one, 230-pound senior who led the ODAC with 64.5 tackles (50 solo, 29 assisted), including 18.5 for loss, one forced fumble, one interception and was among the league leaders with six sacks.

Guilford signal caller Josh Vogelbach from N. Fort Myers, Fla., was tabbed as the league’s Freshman-of-the-Year after setting Guilford season and NCAA Division III freshman records for pass completions (280), pass attempts (475), passing yards (3,549), passing touchdowns (37) and total offense (3,638 yards).

On the heels of his team’s fifth-consecutive ODAC championship and its sixth straight appearance in the DIII National Tournament, Bridgewater field general Mike Clark was honored by his peers as the 2005 Coach-of-the-Year.  Clark led the Eagles to an 8-1 record and a perfect 6-0 mark in the league.  This is the fourth-time Clark has received this honor.

Washington and Lee defensive tackle Liam Murray was honored by the league’s Sports Information Directors as the Football Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year.  A First-Team All-ODAC selection in 2005, Murray is a native of Oneonta, N.Y. and fashions a 3.48 grade-point-average while majoring in history. Murray finished the season second on the Generals squad with 55 tackles and recorded three sacks despite missing the last two games of the season to a knee injury.  He helped lead the W&L defense to a first-place ranking in the league in total defense at 19.1 points-per-game.
