Finals Here We Come, Again: This is F&M's fourth championship round appearance and third in the last 10 years. F&M placed third in 1979, lost the national championship game vs. Wis-Platteville in 1991 and placed fourth in 1996. This is the first time F&M has advanced to the final round by winning the sectional title outside of the Mayser Center. Entering Saturday's game with Catholic University at William Paterson (neutral site), F&M was 3-0 in Elite Eight games at home and 0-2 in the round of eight games on the road. All-Academic Squad: Senior guard Jerome Maiatico will be named F&M's first men's basketball first-team GTE Academic All-American. His is the first three-time GTE Academic All-American in F&M history (all sports). He was also one of the 10 Jostens Trophy finalists. Maiatico is F&M's only GTE basketball All-American. Head Man: Head coach Glenn Robinson, who ranks No. 2 among active NCAA Division III coaches in wins (581), is averaging 20.0 wins per season for his 29-year career. During that 29-year span, the team is averaging just 27.3 games per year. F&M has played 30 or more games in a year only four times during Robinson's career. By comparison, most successful NCAA Division I teams play about 35 games every year. All-Centennial: Sophomore Alex Kraft was named the Centennial Conference "Player of the Year." He is the third Diplomat to earn the award in the seven-year history of the CC (All-America guard Dave Jannetta won it the first two years of the CC; All-America guard Jeremiah Henry won it in 1996). Kraft is also the first sophomore to win the award in CC history. Winning Ways: The Diplomats are on a 15-game winning streak, their longest since opening the 1996 season with 19 consecutive wins. The Diplomats ended that season 29-3 overall, including two losses in Salem to Hope (76-57) and Illinois Wesleyan (89-57). Roster
Head Coach: Glenn Robinson About Coach Robinson F&M head coach Glenn Robinson is one of the most successful NCAA Division III coaches, having compiled a 581-212 (.733) overall coaching record. He entered his 29th season at Franklin & Marshall ranked among the Top 10 of all NCAA Division III coaches (active and retired) for career victories and winning percentage. Robinson is a 1967 graduate of West Chester University, where he earned degrees in health and physical education. While at West Chester, he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. He joined the F&M basketball staff in 1968 and was named head coach in 1971. His teams have averaged 19.9 wins per season during his 29-year tenure and the Diplomats have competed in the NCAA Division III championship tournament 11 of the past 15 years. The Diplomats are ranked among the "Winningest Teams in the 1990s" in the NCAA Basketball records book with a 231-51 overall mark. Robinson led teams have been in the conference playoffs 23 of the past 27 years, the NCAA playoffs 18 of the past 26 years and have been nationally ranked 23 of the past 25 years. A native of Alden, Pa., Robinson also serves at the head golf coach at F&M. |
