The North Park Vikings joined elite company with an 83-76 victory over Upsala that gave them their third consecutive Division III basketball championship. With the title, North Park joined UCLA as the only NCAA teams to capture three national championships in a row. Michael Thomas, named the tournament's most outstanding player, scored five points in a 13-2 second half outburst that allowed the Vikings to take control of the game. North Park led by six points at halftime, but Upsala had rallied to close the gap to four at 49-45 before the Viking spurt. Guard Modzel Greer led North Park with 18 points in the championship game while Thomas had 17. All-America center Michael Harper missed almost half the game for the champions with foul trouble but still managed 16 points and five rebounds. Steve Keenan, the top scorer in the entire tournament with 105 total points, scored 19 in the title game to lead Upsala.
