North Park needed a rally in the closing minutes of the 1985 Division III men's title game to pull out a 72-71 victory against Potsdam State and win the 1985 championship. The Vikings picked up the school's fourth Division III men's basketball title with the win. The championship's Most Outstanding Player was North Park's Earnest Hubbard. The Vikings became the third consecutive national champion to go into overtime in regional play as they beat Wisconsin-Whitewater 83-81 in the Midwest Regional and they won their next three games by a total of eight points.
