The Knights of Calvin College making their eighth
appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship
Tournament, defeated the Yellow Jackets of Rochester, 62-49 March 21
in Springfield, Ohio. Calvin was able to keep Rochester center Chris
Fite, Outstanding Player of the 1990 Championships to just 11 points
in the game, all in the first half. The Knights' center Steve Honderd
scored 25 points to lead the Knights offensively and defensively with
8 rebounds. Calvin shot 53.5% from the field and 82.4% from the free
throw line and built on their eight-point halftime lead to bring the
final margin to 13. Wisconsin-Platteville, the defending champions,
defeated Jersey City State in the third-place game, 72-61.
