Kyle Hupfer, Manchester

Wis.-Platteville head coach Bo Ryan had his troops at the ready, entering their third Division III championship round and they executed, taking home the Pioneers' second national championship with a 69-55 win over Manchester. With the win, UW-P became only the second team in D-III history to make it through the season undefeated. Platteville was led by senior guard Ernie Peavy. Prior to the championship round, Peavy had dominated the Pioneers' competition, posting 124 points in the five games leading up to the championship match-up with Manchester. He continued his dominance, scoring 17 against the Spartans. The story of the game rested in defense. Platteville used a relentless pressing defensive scheme to shut down Manchester's outside game and hold the Spartans to 39.8 percent shooting from the field.
