LC Women’s Soccer Captures ODAC Title With 1-0 Win over W&L

LYNCHBURG, VA – Freshman Lauren Askey (Baltimore, MD) scored 57 seconds into the second half to give the Lynchburg College women’s soccer team a 1-0 win over Washington & Lee University Sunday in the finals of the 2004 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament. The Hornets earn their fifth ODAC title and the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament, with pairings to be announced Sunday night.

The Hornets out shot W&L 5-2 in the first half, but the game was scoreless at intermission. Askey corralled a shot from Kim Vaughan (Baltimore, MD) in the box and fired it past W&L keeper Emily Barker (Clifton, VA) for the games’ only score.

Lynchburg held edges in total shots (12-5) and corner kicks (3-2), and keeper Erin Johnson (Davidsonville, MD) made four saves to record her 12th shutout of the season. Barker made two saves for W&L (12-4-3).
