Student Achievement of Institutional Goals

In compliance with Council on Higher Education Accreditation and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges standards, Bridgewater College establishes goals for student learning and assesses the success of students in achieving those goals. These institutional goals were established by BC2020: The Strategic Plan of Bridgewater College and include benchmarks for student learning in the areas of critical thinking, critical reading, written communication and scientific and quantitative literacy. Student achievement of these goals is assessed by the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+), a test administered by the Council for Aid to Education. The CLA+ includes a “Performance Task” component in which students construct a written argument that integrates a set of documents to address a real world problem and also a series of “Selected-Response Questions” that measure scientific and quantitative reasoning and critical thinking. The results of our Spring 2016 adminstration of the CLA+ to graduating seniors is summarized below.
