Mark A. Martin will begin coaching the E&H golf team this spring, replacing Lou Wacker, who retired in December from Emory & Henry as both head golf coach and head football coach.
While serving as a physical education instructor for Abingdon High School from 1980 to 2002, Martin served eight years as head coach of the school's golf team. During that time, his teams won four district championships, four district tournament championships, one regional championship and the VHSL Group AA State Championship in 2000.
His other coaching experiences at Abingdon High School include 19 years as head coach of the boys track team, 10 years as head coach of the wrestling team and 13 years as an assistant football coach.
Most recently he worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for the Town of Abingdon.
Martin is a 1977 graduate of Emory & Henry and holds a bachelor of arts degree in health and physical education. While attending Emory & Henry, he participated in football and track. Martin ran track for the 1976 undefeated team (9-0, dual match).
