SALEM, VA – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its 2005 Men’s Soccer All-Conference teams on Tuesday with Roanoke defender Donny Smith and Randolph-Macon goalkeeper Nick Warner being named Co-Players-of-the-Year.

Smith, a senior from Roanoke, Va., started all 15 matches this season for RC, registering one-goal and anchoring a defense that allowed just a total 21 goals and posted four shutouts.  Smith helped the Maroons to a second-place regular season finish in the ODAC.

A senior from Timonium, Md., Warner posted a league-best 0.70 goals-against-average.  He notched nine shutouts in 17 matches, allowed just 12 goals, while making 71 saves on the season.  Warner helped the Yellow Jackets to a 12-4-2 finish this season.

Emory and Henry’s Elliot Anderson has been named the Rookie-of-the-Year.  Anderson, a native of Ooletwah, Tenn. and a second-team all-conference defender, finished tied for fourth in the league with nine goals.  He added five assists for a total of 23 points which was also good for a fourth-place finish in the ODAC rankings.

Washington and Lee’s Rolf Piranian has been honored by his peers as the 2005 Coach-of-the-Year.  Piranian capped off his 30th-year on the W&L sidelines by leading his team to a 9-6-2 overall record, a third-place regular season finish in the ODAC and a spot in the semifinals of the league tournament.  This is the seventh-time Piranian has received this award.

Eastern Mennonite’s Adam Shank was recognized by the Sports Information Directors in the ODAC as the Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year.  Shank, a first-team midfielder, totaled eight points this season on two goals and four assists.  Shank helped lead the Royals to the ODAC Championship match versus Virginia Wesleyan.  A native of Harrisonburg, Va., Shank has a 3.96 grade-point-average while majoring in Justice, Peace, and Conflict Studies and Spanish at EMU.
