Bridgewater Eliminates Randolph-Macon with a 9-2 Victory

LYNCHBURG, VA – Justin Showalter went three-for-five with four runs batted in and Jimmy Greene tossed six solid innings to help Bridgewater to a 9-2 victory over Randolph-Macon at the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Baseball Championship.

After three scoreless innings, Bridgewater (28-10-1) cracked the score board in the top of the fourth-inning when Jono Brooks reached on error, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Foltz and came around to score on a double by Showalter.

The Yellow Jackets (21-18) responded in the home-half of the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Seth Rapoza, giving RMC a 2-1 lead.

Bridgewater regained the lead the following half-inning with five-runs to go up 6-1. A Showalter triple scoring a pair of runs highlighted the Eagle offense attack in the inning.

In the seventh inning, Foltz led the inning off with a double and came around to score on a one-out double by Showalter. After a fly out by Ricky Read, Chance Dobbs delivered a two-out RBI single to plate Showalter. Matt Johnson capped the inning with an RBI single of his own to bring home Dobbs and extend the BC lead to 9-3.

Greene picked up the win after allowing five hits and one earned run. He issued just one free pass and struck out five. With the win he improves to 5-1 on the season.

Yellow Jacket starter Charlie Hart took the loss to drop to 1-4 on the season. Hart went five innings, surrendering five hits and five earned runs.

Bridgewater moves on to the 11:00 a.m. game Saturday and will face the winner of Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan.
