Lynchburg’s Mays and Simmons Highlight ODAC Softball All-Conference Team


SALEM, VALynchburg senior first baseman Christy Mays has been named the 2005 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player-of-the-Year by the league’s nine head coaches.

 

A native of Amherst, VA , Mays hit .403 this season with a home run and 36 RBI. Mays had an on base percentage of  .426,  made just three errors in 292 chances and ranks in the top five in nine different ODAC offensive categories.  Mays holds LC records for career doubles, doubles in a season, triples in a game, at bats in a season, and games played in a season.

 
In addition to her performance on the field, Mays was also recognized as the softball Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year by the league’s Sports Information Directors. She has earned a 3.79 GPA while majoring in environmental science and minoring in sociology.


Lyndsi Craig of Roanoke was named the league’s Pitcher-of-the-Year after leading the Maroons to their second consecutive ODAC championship.  Craig was 13-1 with a 1.43 ERA and struck out an ODAC best 144 batters in a 102. innings pitched.  Opponents hit just .177 against the Roanoke native and she allowed just 10 extra base hits on the season.

 

Bridgewater’s Jennifer Hall took Rookie-of-the-Year honors after starting all 42 games for BC, batting .384 with three home runs and 19 RBI.  The Lynchburg, VA native collected an ODAC best 56 hits, including a league leading five triples and scored 37 runs during the season.

 

Lynchburg skipper Dawn Simmons was tabbed as Coach-of-the-Year by her peers after leading the Hornets to a 31-9 overall record and an appearance in the ODAC Championship game. This is the fourth such honor for Simmons.
