Salem, Va. – Washington and Lee
University shortstop Michael Hanson received the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year award following Tuesday's annual coaches
meeting. Guilford second baseman Brian
Slate garnered the conference Rookie of the Year honor while General head coach
Jeff Stickley was named the conference Coach of the Year.
A
senior from Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy, Hanson started in all 36 of W&L’s
games this season. He ranked second on
his team in batting average with a .371 average, including 12 doubles, three
triples and five homeruns. Hanson also
recorded 23 RBI and stole 14 bases, which ranked fifth in the league. On the mound, he was 2-1 with a 1.59 earned
run average while striking out 19 batters in 17 innings pitched.
Slate
(Thomasville,
NC/Wesleyan Academy) led the Quakers and the conference in batting with a .420
average. He recorded 11 doubles and
three homeruns while knocking in 44 runs.
His 44 RBI ranked third in the conference this season.
W&L’s
Jeff Stickley was honored with his third conference Coach of the Year
award. The Generals (28-8) made it to
the championship game of the ODAC Baseball Tournament in Winston-Salem, N.C.
before falling to Virginia Wesleyan, 11-3.
