RMC’s Megan Silva Headlines 2005-06 ODAC Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams

Yellow Jacket Senior Wins Third Consecutive Player-of-the-Year Honor

 

SALEM, VA – For the third consecutive season, Randolph-Macon guard Megan Silva has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Year as the league announced its 2005-06 All-Conference teams at a pre-tournament banquet held in the Salem Civic Center Wednesday night.

                                

The senior stand out becomes the first ODAC Women’s Basketball player to win the award three times after leading the league in scoring this season with 22.7 points a game and assists with 147.  The Glen Allen, Va., native ranks fourth in the nation in scoring and 10th in assists.  A two-time All-American, she recorded her 2,000th point earlier this season and is just 86 points away from setting the ODAC Women’s Basketball career scoring record.  She also stands as the league’s all-time leader in assists (628) and steals (420).

 

Virginia Wesleyan’s Stephany Dunmyer was honored by her peers as the 2005-06 ODAC Coach-of-the-Year.  In just her third season on the Marlin bench, Dunmyer has led her team to a school record 14 ODAC wins in 2005-06 and the third-seed in this weekend’s tournament.   Dunmyer has led her squad to a 17-8 record without a single senior on her roster and just three juniors.  Her teams have amassed 29 wins over the last two seasons and VWC is making its second consecutive trip to the ODAC Tournament

 

Freshman-of-the-Year honors went to Guilford’s Kristine Ellis.  A native of Winston-Salem, N.C.,   Ellis is the Quakers’ leading rebounder and second-leading scorer.  She ranks third in the ODAC in rebounding, 18th in scoring which is tops among the league's rookies and has a team-high nine double-doubles this season. 

 

Bridgewater’s Marsha Kinder was honored by the league’s Sports Information Directors as the 2005-06 Women’s Basketball Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year.  A first-team selection on the court, Kinder sports a 3.98 grade-point-average in the classroom while majoring in Allied Health Services/Nutrition Wellness at Bridgewater.  She leads BC in scoring with just over 17 points a game.

 

Hollins received the inaugural ODAC Women’s Basketball Team Sportsmanship Award, which is voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.
