Randolph-Macon Tops ODAC Women’s Basketball Tournament Field

Tournament Play Begins at 12:30pm Thursday Afternoon

Salem, Va. 2005 National Runner-Up Randolph-Macon College sits atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket. The Yellow Jackets enter the tournament with a 22-2 overall record and 19-1 mark in conference play.

Macon is led by three-time all-ODAC first team performer Megan Silva. Silva enters the tournament just 86 points shy of the all-time ODAC scoring record of 2,283, points held by Guilford’s  Laura Haynes (1995-98). Silva is supported by a strong supporting cast including Michelle Orton, Salem Shaffer and freshman standout Amanda Hiltunen. Head Coach Carroll LaHaye is looking for her third conference championship in four years. RMC begins the tournament action facing #8 Washington and Lee on Thursday afternoon at 12:30pm.

The Bridgewater Eagles are the tournament’s #2 seed following a solid 2005-06 conference campaign which saw BC post an 18-2 mark. The Eagles hold the distinction of being the only conference team to defeat Randolph-Macon this season with a 83-81 double overtime decision on January 3rd. Head Coach Jean Willi uses a solid line-up led by guards Katy Herr and Marsha Kinder. BC’s first round opponent is Emory & Henry College – the two face off Thursday evening at 6pm.

Virginia Wesleyan finds itself with the tournament’s third seed. The Marlins posted a 14-6 conference record, which marks the school record for ODAC victories in the regular season with 14.   Wesleyan starts the tournament with a first round match-up with #6 Roanoke – a team it defeated twice in the regular season.

Eastern Mennonite, the 2004 conference champion, rounds out the top four seeds followed by Guilford (5th), Roanoke (6th), Emory & Henry (7th) and Washington and Lee (8th).
