W&L’s Kristen Brown Named ODAC Women’s Lacrosse Player-of-the-Year

SALEM, VA. – Washington and Lee senior midfielder Kristen Brown has been named the 2005 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Lacrosse Player-of-the-Year by the league’s nine head coaches.

Brown, a native of Baltimore, Md., helped lead the Generals to their third consecutive league championship with a 6-5 win over Randolph-Macon on Sunday.  Brown has started all 17 games this season for W&L scoring nine goals, picking up 46 ground balls, winning 13 draw controls and causing 16 turnovers.

Brown’s coach, Jan Hathorn was honored by her peers by being named the 2005 ODAC Coach-of-the-Year after leading the Generals to a perfect 8-0 mark in the league and an overall record of 14-3.  W&L is currently ranked 12th in the nation by LaxPower.com.   This is Hathorn’s third consecutive coach-of-year honor and her seventh overall since joining the program in 1988.

Ellie Donahue of Sweet Briar took home Rookie-of-the-Year honors after finishing third in the league in scoring with 47 goals in 16 games.  A native of Richmond, Va., Donahue also had eight assists on the season for a total of 55 points to earn first-team honors as well.  Donahue helped lead SBC to a berth in the ODAC Tournament and an 11-7 quarterfinal win over Lynchburg where she scored seven times.

Virginia Wesleyan’s Kristen Jehl was honored by the ODAC Sports Information Directors as the 2005 Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year.  Jehl has a 3.91 GPA and has been named to the Dean’s List five times while majoring in criminal justice at VWC.  On the field, Jehl started all 17 games at defense this season for the Marlins.  She picked up 38 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers in leading the Marlins to a second-place regular finish in the ODAC.
